The Coast Guard has rescued 11 people on board a 44-foot commercial vessel on a private snorkel cruise a mile off Olowalu, Maui.

The boat was taking on water through its cooling system due to engine failure, when the Coast Guard Station Maui got the call at 8:54 a.m. Wednesday.

The Coast Guard launched a 45-foot boat and the crew transferred the seven passengers and four crew members from the Leilani onto the Coast Guard boat and brought them to shore, Petty Officer Nicholas Garcia said.

The Coast Guard boat towed the boat in.
