Defense secretary schedules stop in Hawaii on way to Asia

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s week-long trip to Asia will begin with a stopover in the islands this week.

Hagel will meet with U.S. Pacific Commander Admiral Samuel Locklear and visit with Marines at Kaneohe Bay, according to the Pentagon. No information was given on which day Hagel will arrive in Hawaii.

But he is scheduled to visit Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, on Saturday followed by layovers in Jakarta, Indonesia, Aug. 26 – Aug. 27.

From Jakarta, he will travel to Brunei Aug.  27-29 to meet with defense counterparts from across the Asia-Pacific region.

On Aug. 28 in Brunei, Hagel will meet with ASEAN defense ministers at their annual retreat.

Hagel will conclude his trip in Manila on Aug. 29-30 return to Washington.
