Cause of Lahaina brush fire under investigation

LAST UPDATED: 02:33 a.m. HST, Oct 21, 2013

A small brush fire broke out Saturday afternoon behind the Lahaina Aquatic Center, Maui County fire officials said Sunday.

A caller reported around 3:30 p.m. that an old pump house near the area around Shaw and Mill streets had caught fire, but the flames were actually coming from a brush fire next to the structure, officials said.

About 1/4 acre of brush burned, and the abandoned structure was not involved.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the blaze under control. The cause is under investigation.
