Storm runoff on Kauai prompts Health Department warning

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 07:55 p.m. HST, Dec 01, 2013

The state Department of Health's Clean Water Branch has issued a brown water advisory for the east-northeast areas of Kauai from Nawiliwili to Hanalei.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm runoff due to potential contamination from overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.

The advisory cautions people to stay out of coastal waters that are turbid and brown.

Kids of today, miss all the trials of growing up. We played in the swamps and in contaminated "brown waters" as described and experienced huge "boils" on our arms and legs. We took care of ourseves by letting the boils come to a head, and squeezing the pus out, usually with a "head". if no head, the pus forms agin.
