Las Vegas cab driver finds $300K in back seat

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 05:27 p.m. HST, Dec 25, 2013

LAS VEGAS >> Las Vegas cab driver Gerardo Gamboa thought someone left a bag of chocolates in the back seat.

But this stash turned out to be cold hard cash.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Gamboa was making a pickup Monday at the Bellagio when a hotel doorman noticed the brown paper bag and handed it to him.

At a red light the Checker Cab driver's curiosity got the best of him. To his surprise, he found six bundles of $100 bills totaling $300,000.

The newspaper reports Gamboa called his dispatcher and took the money to the company's main office.

Las Vegas police and casino officials were able to link the money to a well-known poker player they declined to identify.

It is unknown whether Gamboa will receive a big Christmas tip.

Driver did the right thing. Many thousands of other people, if put in his predicament, would try to take the $$, quit cabbing and run.

Good things will happen in the future for Mr. Gamboa. Your honesty especially this time of year shows what kind of integrity you have. Not too many people like you in this world now. Hope the owner will do/give something to you.

If they found the owner / rider through dispatch records. They could have easily single out the cabdriver by doing the same thing.
