The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office has identified the 71-year-old homeless man who drowned after falling into Nuuanu Stream in Chinatown in October as Edward Chavez.

Witnesses told police that the man fell into the stream near River and Pauahi streets on Oct. 9.

The case has been classified as accidental death due to drowning.

Firefighters and police pulled the man from the stream, and he later became unresponsive and was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said.
