Cloudy, drizzly skies partially obscured Diamond Head in this view from Kaimuki this afternoon.

Scattered showers are falling over Oahu and other islands this afternoon as a storm system approaches the islands from the northeast.

More showers, especially on the windward side, are likely tonight, forecasters said.

A wind advisory for the Hawaii island slopes, Haleakala and Lanai was canceled this afternoon. But a high surf advisory remains in effect for eastern shores of most islands until 6 a.m. Thursday.

Temperatures are expecgted to warm up tonight compared to the cooler temperatures over the last few nights from the colder north and northeast winds.

Instead winds will begin shifting to the south, bringing muggy Kona weather and vog this weekend through at least Tuesday.

Thursday and Friday should be mostly sunny with some isolated showers. Winds will shift to the southeast in the late morning and afternoon.

Another weather system moving in from the northwest will destabilize the atmosphere and bring the chance of more rain and possible thunder storms starting Friday night in Honolulu.

Forecasters expect partly cloudy skies this weekend with a 50 percent chance of rain and a slight chance of thunder storms.
