Gaming board recommends license for $4B Las Vegas project

By Associated Press

POSTED:

LAS VEGAS >> Nevada gambling regulators have recommended a gaming license for a Malaysian conglomerate that hopes to build a $4 billion Asian-themed resort on the Las Vegas Strip.

The recommendation for Genting Berhad came Wednesday at a Nevada Gaming Control Board meeting. The matter must also pass through the Nevada Gaming Commission later this month.

Genting officials say they plan to break ground this year on Resorts World Las Vegas, which would incorporate 80 percent to 85 percent of the buildings in the stalled Echelon project on the tourism corridor's less-traveled north end.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the initial phase is expected to include 3,000 hotel rooms, a large casino, a 4,000-seat theater and a garden attraction. Company officials say they're also considering adding a 20th Century Fox theme park.
