Hawaii senior Amy Carlson rose to catch a shot on goal by UC Davis during Saturday’s match.

University of Hawaii athletic teams remained close to the overall national average for the NCAA’s Academic Performance Rate (APR) in the most recent period.

The NCAA announced on Wednesday that the national APR (four-year) average for all sports was 976. UH posted a department-wide 968.

UH’s best showing was a 972 in 2010-11 academic year.

Four UH teams — men’s golf, women’s cross country, women’s water polo and women’s tennis — achieved perfect scores of 1,000 for the 2012-’13 academic period.

Five of UH’s 18 programs met or exceeded the national multi-year average for their sport: football (962, 951), men’s golf (984, 974), cross country (985, 985), soccer (983, 982) and women’s swimming and diving (989, 987).

None of UH’s sports fell below the 930 cutoff for which sanctions can be meted out.

Eighteen schools, including the Nevada-Las Vegas football team of the Mountain West Conference, are ineligible for postseason play in the 2014-15 season in one or more sports.

The APR was begun by the NCAA a decade ago to measure academic progress through eligibility and retention.
