Hawaiian Springs has closed its plant on Hawaii Island due to inconsistent power, the company said Friday.
The company started working on Monday to prepare for the imminent storm, with the bottling plant running at maximum capacity in order to supply as much product as possible to distributors and retailers, Tom Van Dixhorn, president of Hawaiian Springs, said in a press release.
The company was filling orders from distributors up until Thursday afternoon when the first storm-related surges were felt. Prior to the machines shutting down, they had been producing more than 8,000 cases in 16 hours, averaging 525 cases per hour.
"Without stable power, the Hawaiian Springs plant employees had to close up the line on Thursday and prepare the plant for the storm," the company said.
As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, the bottling plant was still without power. It is working to restore power to the site as soon as possible.
