Maui police captain promoted to assistant chief

Maui Police Capt. John D. Jakubczak, will be promoted to Assistant Chief and be assigned to the Support Services Bureau.

The promotion will take effect Tuesday.

Jakubczak was commander of the Criminal Investigation Division.

After graduating from Baldwin High School in 1983 and serving a three-year stint with in the U.S. Army as a multi-channel communications equipment operator, Jakubczak joined the Maui Police Department in November 1987.

 During his career, he has been assigned to the Lahaina Patrol District, communications section, criminal investigation Division, internal affairs division, Molokai Patrol District, and Wailuku Patrol District. 

He has led the Lahaina Patrol District, Molokai Patrol District and Criminal Investigation Division.

Jakubczak is an instructor for the Maui Police Department’s Arrest Defense Tactics training course and a member of the California Homicide Investigators Association, the International Homicide Investigators Association and the FBI National Academy Associates. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in December 2009.
