A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Panama Tuesday afternoon.

A preliminary 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit Panama Tuesday afternoon, but does not post a tsunami threat to Hawaii or region, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The temblor struck 18 miles south of Acandi, Colombia at a depth of 6.2 miles at 2:10 p.m. Hawaii time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake was too far inland to pose any tsunami threat.

No injuries were immediately reported.
