The 35-year-old stepdaughter of Duane “Dog” Chapman was charged Monday with robbing a downtown Honolulu bank.

Nicole “Nickie” Gillespie, who gave no home address when she was arrested Sunday, was charged with second-degree robbery. Her bail was set at $40,000.

CrimeStoppers Honolulu earlier this month released surveillance of a woman who robbed the Territorial Savings Bank, on 1100 Bishop St. on Sept. 3.

Gillespie is the daughter of one of Duane Chapman’s ex-wives to whom he was married briefly, and is not related to him by blood, according to Chapman. Chapman starred in the A&E TV series “Dog the Bounty Hunter.”

“It’s always difficult and disheartening when someone you knew as a child, grows up and chooses a life of crime,” Duane and Beth Chapman said in a written statement about Gillespie. “That is the case with Nicole Gillespie, who has been accused of robbing the Territorial Savings Bank on Bishop Street on Sept. 3.”

“We have not seen ‘Nickie’ in over 10 years,” they said. “Watching her on CrimeStoppers left us all shocked and heartbroken.”

Police arrested Gillespie near Foster Botanical Garden at about noon Sunday.

Police said that the suspect handed a teller a note demanding money.
