Firefighters this morning had to airlift a man, who called 911 while hiking on the Kealii Trail above Mokuleia to report a medical emergency.

The hiker called 911 at 7:20 a.m. after hiking for 20 minutes on the 2.5-mile trail situated in the Waianae mountain range above Mokuleia.

Eleven firefighters responded to the call and were able to reach the hiker at 7:55 a.m.

The department’s helicopter flew the man to Dillingham Airfield at 8:19 a.m. and turned him over paramedics.

There was no immediate information on the patient’s condition.
