By Elizabeth P. McIntosh

POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Dec 09, 2012

~~
Editor’s note: Elizabeth P. McIntosh, now 97, originally wrote this article as a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin a week after the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, but it was not published due to an editor’s concern over too-graphic content. It finally ran last week in The Washington Post, and is presented here today; an interview with McIntosh ran in Friday’s Star-Advertiser (“The Untold Story: Reporter's eyewitness saga runs 71 years after attack”). After her journalism career, McIntosh served in the Office of Strategic Services and the Central Intelligence Agency before retiring to Lake Ridge, Va. She is the author of four books.
