Hawaii’s Amber Kaufman won the high jump at today’s NCAA outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Ore., It is the first gold for a UH athlete in track and field since 1984 when Gwen Loud won the long jump.
Kaufman cleared four heights on her first jump, the last at 6 feet, 1 1/4 inches (1.86 meters). She failed on her three attempts at 6-2 1/2 (1.89M).
Kaufman’s personal best is 6-4. This is her fifth All-America performance (top eight) in track. She also earned All-American honors in volleyball.
Kaufman has one year of track eligibility remaining.
