Fire burns classroom at Honowai Elementary School
Honolulu firefighters responded to a second suspicious fire this weekend at a Waipahu area school last night.
The fire at Honowai Elementary School was reported at 9:15 p.m. and confined to one classroom. The fire was reported under control at 9:26 p.m. Fire Capt. Robert Main said investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and damage was estimated at $40,000
Another fire early Friday morning destroyed a wooden portable at Waipahu Intermediate School, causing about $200,000 in damage.
About 20 firefighters responded to the fire at 12:38 a.m. and extinguished it by 1:44 a.m.
Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said today that investigators determined the Waipahu Intermediate School fire was arson and the case has been forwarded to police.
