CHICAGO — The Oakland Athletics have reinstated catcher Kurt Suzuki from the bereavement list and optioned outfielder Matt Carson to Triple-A Sacramento.
The moves came on a busy day in which Oakland also acquired outfielder Conor Jackson from Arizona for minor league closer Sam Demel,
Suzuki, a Baldwin High product from Maui, was in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs after missing the weekend series at San Francisco because of a death in the family. He was batting .274 with a team-leading eight homers and has 29 RBIs.
Carson got sent back to Triple-A exactly one week after he was recalled for his second sting with the Athletics. He went 1 for 6 in three games.
