Woman dies in Big Island crash

A 55-year-old Ocean View woman was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle collision on Kamaoa Road near Discovery Harbor at South Point on the Big Island.

The victim was identified as Marena L. Bohol.

Kau patrol officers determined that a 22-year-old woman from Naalehu was driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck on Kamaoa Road when she crossed the centerline and collided with a 1994 Toyota two-door sedan driven by Bohol.

Fire Department personnel took the driver of the truck and her passenger, a 55-year-old woman, to Kona Community Hospital. It is unknown what their conditions are.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have opened a negligent homicide investigation.

Inmate escapes from Waiawa facility

A 30-year-old inmate escaped from the Waiawa Correctional Facility just after lunch Sunday.

Sundance Cambra, 30, was returned to Waiawa in March after his parole had been revoked because he was caught on several occasions in possession of illegal drugs. Cambra was enrolled in a substance abuse rehabilitation program at Waiawa.

This is not the first time Cambra has tried to flee while in custody. Court records show Cambra was convicted in 2003 for trying to escape from a work release program at Oahu Community Correctional Center.
