Hawi couple arrested for allegedly growing marijuana

Big Island police arrested a Hawi couple for drug offenses, including growing marijuana.

North Kohala patrol and vice officers served a search warrant on a Kaahuhu Road home in Kohala and found 102 marijuana plants, 340 grams of processed marijuana, more than 7 grams of hashish and growing equipment inside the home. Officers also seized $2,990 in cash for forfeiture.  

Jules Laramee, 58, and his 60-year-old wife were arrested on suspicion of commercial promotion of marijuana, promoting a detrimental drug, promoting a harmful drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. His wife was later released.

Prosecutors charged Laramee on Wednesday with the offenses. He was released that evening after posting $17,500 bail.
