‘Fairly widespread’ power outage hits the Big Island
Big Island residents were hit with a “fairly widespread” blackout tonight in Waikoloa and Hilo, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokeswoman said.
Big Island police said the outage began shortly before 9 p.m. and was rolling across the island.
Jan Miller, HECO spokeswoman, said the blackout was not islandwide, and some areas were not affected.
She said most customers were getting power back within 10 minutes. All customers had their power restored in less than an hour, she said.
