Kauai voters may always be absentee

Kauai registered voters were to receive applications to register as permanent absentee voters today through Friday.

People who register as permanent absentee voters will receive mail-in ballots for all future elections and do not need to apply each time for an absentee ballot, as is the case now.

Interested voters need to complete the application and send it to the Elections Division at least seven days before the election.

Voters who solely want to receive an absentee ballot for the upcoming election or who might be temporarily off-island and need their ballots mailed elsewhere must complete and submit a standard absentee ballot application. Those applications are available at www.hawaii.gov/elections.

Voters who do not have access to the Internet can call 241-4800 to request an application.

The Hawaii primary election is Sept. 18, and the general election is Nov. 2.
