Police were still searching tonight for a black 2000 Nissan Sentra that was taken during an assault in the afternoon in Chinatown.

Police said paramedics called about 1:30 p.m. to report they were responding to a stolen vehicle involving an assault on Nuuanu Avenue near Hotel Street.

The victim, the male driver of the Sentra, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the suspect fled with the car, police said.

Police did not release a description of the suspect. A stolen vehicle and second-degree robbery case has been opened.
