Police arrested a man who allegedly dragged another man with his truck in an attempt to steal the victim’s backpack yesterday morning in Waikiki.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, and a friend caught a ride from two male strangers in a truck about midnight, police said.

After dropping the men off, the driver grabbed the victim’s backpack and drove off with the victim hanging onto the vehicle, police said. The man fell off after about a half-mile and sustaining several scraps, police said. He went to the hospital on his own.

About 2:10 p.m. the same day, the suspect was arrested at the main police station in connection with the incident. He was booked on suspicion of first-degree robbery and second-degree attempted murder.
