Kauai’s Napali Coast park to temporarily close
LIHUE — The Napali Coast State Wilderness Park on Kauai’s north shore will close temporarily so crews can mitigate rockfall hazards, clear illegal campsites and reduce the number of feral animals.
The closure is to begin Sept. 7 and continue through Oct. 31.
The work will involve permanently closing campsites near the waterfall and on sections of a trail that are subject to frequent rock falls, removing illegal camping and squatter dwellings, and reduce the park’s feral pigs and goats.
The project also will monitor and survey archaeological and cultural sites, restore the Kalalau Trail and install new management, directional, warning and interpretive signs.
