City officials are estimating that parts of Ala Moana Blvd. near the Prince Kuhio Federal Building will remain closed until sometime late tonight  following a 12-inch water main break this morning.

Board of Water Supply crews re-opened the right and center lanes going Koko Head on Ala Moana this morning, but all Ewa-bound lanes remain closed.

The break was reported at about 5:30 a.m. and had closed all lanes in both directions between Alakea and Punchbowl streets were closed because of road damage.

Ewa-bound traffic was being diverted to South Street, where traffic was backed up for most of the day. Other side streets in Kakaako were also backed up. Motorists traveling makai on Punchbowl Street can only turn left.

Water was restored to the federal building and a Board of Water Supply spokeswoman said late this morning that crews are also working to restore water to the Coast Guard station.
