Dance moves benefit Palama

Palama Settlement is hoping to launch an annual tradition with the first Palama Aloha Ball, happening from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the community gym. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Over the past months, the nonprofit social service agency has been offering Sunday dance lessons, which will all be put to good use when attendees cha-cha and do the electric slide with the help of a deejay.

Organizers also are looking for donations of items for a silent auction.

The Palama Aloha Ball is a benefit for the Palama Settlement Recreation Division and sponsored by Bluewater Mission, which worships Sunday mornings in the gym.

Palama Settlement is located at 810 N. Vineyard Blvd. For information, call Rebecca Batchelder at 343-2338 or Ryan Dickey at 541-3503.

WHAT’S IN STORE

Show features Me & Ro jewelry

Me & Ro designer Robin Renzi will be in town for a trunk show of her jewelry designs and limited-edition pieces at Neiman Marcus from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 1. A trunk show of her designs will continue 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 2 to 4, in Designer Jewelry, Level One.

Me & Ro, known for its wearable styles, environmentally friendly designs of recycled gold and silver, and multicultural themes, recently had several jewelry pieces featured in the film "Eat Pray Love," starring Julia Roberts.

The company will donate 10 percent of net proceeds from the sale of Me & Ro jewelry between those dates to the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization with a mission to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

The foundation was started by Mariska Hargitay, who plays detective Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," which she has said opened her eyes "to the silenced epidemics of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse in this country."

New collection blends art, fashion

You are invited to celebrate the fusion of art and fashion with the launch of 7 For All Mankind’s latest apparel collection, a collaboration with famed Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa, who loaned her brightly colored and whimsical photographs for use in the limited-edition collection for men and women.

The event takes place from 4 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Royal Hawaiian Center boutique.

Guests can enter to win a $100 7 For All Mankind gift card. Members of The Contemporary Museum will receive 20 percent off their purchases at the event by showing a proof of membership card.

Find high-quality kids’ items at sale

Rhea Lana’s semi-annual consignment sales event has returned, this time taking place at Windward Mall from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, on the second floor near Regal Theatres.

On Sunday, prices will be half off.

The sales event started as a way for parents to recoup some of the cost of their children’s clothes and other items. Parents can consign their gently used children’s and infant clothes, toys, furniture, and such and earn 70 percent back on sales.

Shoppers benefit from being able to buy others’ high-quality secondhand children’s merchandise at low prices.

Rhea Lana has partnered with the Lokahi Giving Project, so a portion of every sale will benefit Lokahi’s network of more than 200 local nonprofit and social service agencies, shelters, group homes and hospitals.

The deadline for dropping off consignment items is noon today at Windward Mall. In addition to children’s clothing, they are looking for maternity and junior clothing, books, puzzles, video games, DVDs, sports equipment and more.

People interested in consigning items must register online at www.rhealana.com. For further information, e-mail terrence@rhealana.com.
