$8M awarded to support Raptor jets
The military has awarded an $8 million contract for the construction of a taxiway and F-22 parking area in Hawaii.
The project is due to support the 20 Raptor fighter jets that are being based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
The Honolulu District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Friday that it awarded the contract to Watts Contractors.
The Air Force is assigning the fighter jets to the Hawaii Air National Guard to replace an aging fleet of F-15s.
Project begun to stifle odor, noise
The city has started an $11.8 million project to control odors and noise at the Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
It includes installation of larger fans and ductwork to minimize smells from the plant and construction of sound enclosures and duct silencers to reduce noise.

Police plan checkpoints for fall
Honolulu police officers will conduct impaired-driver checkpoints in September and October, including but not limited to the Labor Day and Halloween weekends.
Police said 21 of the 38 fatal traffic collisions this year had contributing factors of alcohol, drugs or speed.
