Former University of Hawaii center John Estes, trying to make the Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent, was placed on injured reserve by the team today.

Estes, a four-year starter for UH, sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee on the final day of camp.

Jacksonville also placed rookie defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith on IR and waived cornerback Josh Gordy, center Cecil Newton, receiver Roren Thomas and defensive end Julius Williams.

The team also signed rookie center Bradley Vierling, who was waived in mid-June but will now likely see significant time.
