Man indicted for sexually assaulting homeless woman at Kapiolani Park

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment today charging a 44-year-old man with sexually assaulting a homeless woman in Kapiolani Park last Wednesday while the woman was unconscious.

The indictment charges Yoshiro Sanney, who has no local address, with two counts of second-degree sexual assault. He remains in custody unable to post $75,000 bail.

Sanney targeted the 39-year-old homeless woman for sexual assault, said Vickie Kapp, deputy city prosecutor. She said witnesses called police when they saw him cut off the woman’s underwear with a pair of scissors.

When officers arrived at the park, the witnesses pointed out the victim and identified the suspect, police said. They arrested Sanney at the park later in the day.
