State auditor finds bill isn’t warranted
The Hawaii state auditor is opposed to a bill to require real estate appraisal management companies to register with the Real Estate Commission of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
Auditor Marion Higa conducted an analysis of the measure at the request of the state Senate.
Higa said Wednesday that based on a strict application of the statutory criteria, her office found that regulation as proposed in the bill is not warranted.
Instead, Higa recommend the Legislature should ask the department to submit an analysis to accompany suggested language for a new bill.
She says the new measure should comply with applicable provisions of the federal Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989.
