The 30th Hawaii International Film Festival kicks off today. » "Woochi" (6 p.m., Asian Showcase: Spotlight on Korea): One of the hits from last month’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, this fantasy adventure spans ancient to contemporary times as an upstart and undisciplined trickster does battle with wizards and shape-shifting demons. » "Carancho" (7:15 p.m., World Cinema): Argentina’s entry in the Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film competition, HIFF film programmer Anderson Le calls this a great character drama about an ambulance chaser who develops a relationship with a drug-addicted doctor while uncovering a conspiracy. (Also 3 p.m. tomorrow)

» "Under the Hawthorn Tree" (8 p.m., Opening Night): Renowned film director and festival favorite Zhang Yimou will be at the screening, along with his two young leads who star in this story set in the 1970s during the Cultural Revolution involving two lovers from disparate worlds.
