Fisherman found off Marine base identified as Kailua man
A man in his 30s who died Tuesday after he was found unconscious in the water off Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe was identified as Eric Shannon, 31, of Kailua.
The city Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death was deferred pending investigation.
Shannon was seen in a fenced-off area with “no trespassing” signs near the base entrance along H-3 freeway, said Marine Maj. Alan Crouch. He was seen with a pole attached to a fishing net and somehow ended up in the water about 5:40 p.m., Crouch said.
Military police brought the man to shore, and a federal fire ambulance took him in an unresponsive state to Castle Medical Center where he died, Crouch said.
