Tigers’ Inge signs for 2 years, $11M
DETROIT » The Detroit Tigers and Brandon Inge have agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with a team option for the 2013 season.
Inge confirmed the deal yesterday. The option year calls for a $6 million salary or a $500,000 buyout.
Inge had a .977 fielding percentage, best among American League third baseman this year. He hit .247 with 13 homers and 70 RBIs in 144 games last season, a year after he was an All-Star.
Bautista has surgery
Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista has had surgery to repair a sports hernia.
The team says the operation was performed yesterday in Philadelphia "without complication" and his recovery will take four to six weeks. He is expected to be ready for spring training.
Bautista led the majors with 54 home runs this season, obliterating his previous career high of 16. He also batted .260, drove in 124 runs and made his first All-Star team.
