Ceremony marks new downtown Las Vegas transit hub

LAS VEGAS — Officials have marked completion of a $17 million downtown commuter hub for regional transit, Max, Centennial Express, Ace, Deuce, Las Vegas Strip and downtown Las Vegas express buses.

Regional Transportation Commission spokeswoman Tracy Bower said Monday the Bonneville Transit Center is due to open for public use when adjusted routes and new service schedules go into effect Nov. 7.

Bower says the 20,000-square-foot building was designed to meet U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design "gold" certification.

It is located next to the site of a new City Hall scheduled to open in 2012 in a block between First and Main streets and Lewis and Clark avenues.

Funding for the transit center included grants and $5.5-million in federal stimulus money.
