Kona man charged with assault of police officer
A Kailua-Kona man remained in custody on $14,300 bail yesterday after being charged over the weekend with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Hawaii County police said Calvin Vierra, 47, was pulled over by a traffic enforcement officer on Alii Drive near Lyman’s Beach Friday afternoon.
He allegedly resisted arrest and struck the officer who was trying to arrest him for an outstanding warrant.
Police said the officer was treated for his injuries at the Kona Community Hospital and released.
