New series to include scenes filmed in Hawaii

The just-finished Hawaii International Film Festival was the reason the Korean TV series "Athena" was partially filmed in the isles.

The closing-night film — "71: Into the Fire" — stars Cha Seung-won, who also is in the cast for "Athena," so it was an opportunity to film here while at HIFF.

"Athena" is the sequel to last year’s hit series "Iris." The all-star cast includes Soo Ae (also at HIFF with her latest film, "Midnight FM"), Jung Woo-sung and Sean Dulake.

"Athena" will air in November on the SBS network in Korea and should be broadcast in Hawaii on KBFD in January.
