A day after the Leilehua football team was pummeled by Kahuku in the OIA semifinals at Aloha Stadium, one of its recent stars suffered a similar fate on the same field.

Idaho linebacker Robert Siavii, a 2008 Leilehua grad, was on the wrong end of a 45-10 loss against Hawaii last night.

Siavii, one of five Vandals from the islands, was one of the lone bright spots for Idaho last night, finishing with six tackles.

"It was an honor to come home and be on the same field as a lot of my friends and have my family here," Siavii said.

Idaho arrived in Honolulu late Friday afternoon, leaving Siavii little time to see his family. He didn’t watch the Leilehua game against Kahuku, but got plenty of updates on his phone.

"My mom was texting me every 2 minutes with the score," he said. "Eventually she told me it was like 44-7 or something like that and I was like, ‘OK mom, you don’t need to tell me the rest.’ "

Things went just as poorly for Idaho, which lost by more than 30 points for the first time this season. The Vandals turned the ball over three consecutive times in the first half, resulting in three touchdowns for the Warriors, who led 31-3 at halftime.

Idaho, which needs to win three of its final five games to earn a second consecutive trip to a bowl game, continued its perplexing trend of flip-flopping wins and losses.

But none of those defeats, including a 38-17 loss at Nebraska, was as ugly as this one.

"We got embarrassed out here unfortunately today," Idaho coach Robb Akey said. "I thought we were ready to get off this roller coaster, but we didn’t play and compete throughout the whole game."

Idaho had scored at least 30 points in every game except one, but needed a touchdown in the final 3 minutes from a backup quarterback just to reach double digits.

Starter Nathan Enderle, who is projected to be selected in the NFL Draft next April, was held to 207 yards passing, intercepted twice and sacked three times before sitting out most of the fourth quarter.

He started hot, leading the Vandals on a 73-yard scoring drive to open the game. From then on, Hawaii’s defense rattled the senior, as Idaho only averaged 16.9 yards on its next 11 drives.

"The turnovers hurt us, but we didn’t do a good job finishing drives," Akey said. "We march all the way down there to start the game and settle for a field goal and then give up a touchdown to them on fourth down that we should have stopped."

Siavii wasn’t the only Vandal from Hawaii to play in the game. Idaho also got contributions from Damien graduate Kama Bailey and Kamehameha alumnus Conrad Scheidt, who backs up Siavii at linebacker.

Bailey had four catches for 62 yards and returned two kicks for 24 yards, while Scheidt had three solo tackles including one for a loss.
