A 25-year-old Honolulu man was critically injured late last night after being hit by a car as he crossed Kapahulu Avenue.

Honolulu police said today that the man was struck by a Mazda sedan rental car driven by a 48-year-old California man at about 11:11 p.m.

The victim was taken to Queens Medical Center with head and other injuries, police said. The driver is not suspected of speeding or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but police said alcohol may have been a factor for the pedestrian.

The victim was wearing dark clothing and police are unsure if he was in a crosswalk when he was struck.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Kanaina Avenue and closed three southbound lanes of Kapahulu Avenue for about three hours as police investigated.
