3 vie to become ‘Island Edge Star’
Three designers have moved on to the second phase of the inaugural "Island Edge Design Star" search.
Now it’s up to the public to drop into the Ala Moana Center store to check out the designs and vote for their favorite designer: Reise Kochi, Randy Oridello or Sina Thomsen.
The deadline to vote is Nov. 11, and the winner will be announced during a finale event at the store on Nov. 12.
The competition was conceived to help one winning designer manufacture his or her own line, to be carried at Island Edge.
The winner will receive $2,000, plus $500 to donate to a local charity of their choice, and have naming rights for the label and royalties from all sales. There will be honorable mentions for one men’s and women’s clothing line, with $1,500 awarded to each.
T-shirts on sale for cancer fight
Ugh. As much as I dislike facial hair on the opposite sex, I guess I can make an exception for a good cause.
November is better known as "Movember" to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, which challenges men to start the month clean-shaven, then grow a mustache for the entire month. The mustache then becomes the "ribbon," like the breast cancer cause has its pink ribbon, to raise awareness and demonstrate commitment to men’s health.
The movement started in Australia and has since spread to the United States, Canada, Europe and South Africa.
It takes a commitment from both the clean-shaven gang, who must endure days of stubble, and the mustachioed, who must reveal their long-hidden upper lips.
Jedidiah also has a more comfortable solution, introducing two limited edition Movember T-shirts to support the cause, with $10 from each shirt sold to be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Stores that carry the brand include 88 Tees, Surf Garage, Haleiwa Surf N Sea, Hanalei Surf Co. and Nordstrom.
You can also make a monetary contribution to the Jedidiah team at http://us.movember.com/mospace/50281/.
