U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye says it’s too early to draw partisan battle lines so he’ll take a bipartisan approach for now.

Inouye, a Democrat who won his ninth six-year term on Tuesday, said in a statement Thursday that he looks forward to planning a collaborative course for Congress.

He said the election results have left him and colleagues concerned about the challenging days ahead.

But the senator said he wants to talk with new senators from both parties to assess the situation.

He said he will do his best to adopt a bipartisanship stance in his work — something he says he has done since his first years in the Senate.
