About 1,550 gallons of sewage spills into Kalihi Stream

A wastewater discharge has led state officials to advise the public to stay out of Kalihi Stream below 1240 Gulick Ave. and the areas in Keehi Lagoon from the mouth of Kalihi Stream to the boat ramp.

The advisory was issued last night after about 1,550 gallons of wastewater entered the stream. City officials were notified of the spill at 7:46 p.m. and the discharge, which was caused by a clogged pipe, was stopped a short while later, officials said.

The public is advised to stay out of these waters until warning signs have been removed, state officials said, who added that water samples will be collected this morning.
