The City Council’s Zoning Committee today approved the re-appointment of David Tanoue as director of the city Department of Planning and Permitting.

Committee members voted 5-0 on Tanoue’s nomination by Mayor Peter Carlisle. Tanoue’s nomination now goes for a final vote before the full Council at its next regular meeting later this month.

Also today, the Council’s Public Infrastructure Committee voted unanimously to the re-appointment of Tim Steinberger as director of the Department of Environmental Services. There was no public testimony to Steinberger’s appointment, which also goes before the full Council this month.

Both Tanoue and Steinberger were part of Mayor Mufi Hannemann’s Cabinet and are among four officials being re-appointed by Carlisle.

About three dozen people, including Carlisle, showed up today to testify in support of Tanoue’s appointment. Council members agreed with much of the testifiers, saying they are confident in Tanoue’s ability to lead the department with integrity and in a transparent manner.
