Francis Fletcher, one of the most outstanding Hawaii high school basketball players of the 1980s and a longtime coach, has died.

Fletcher’s death was caused by a fall last night at his home, according to two sources.

"I’ve known him since he was my ballboy," said Tony Sellitto, who was Fletcher’s coach at Maryknoll. "He was a great player and a wonderful friend."

Fletcher starred at Maryknoll, leading the Spartans to the state championship final in 1982. He played college basketball at Chaminade and professionally in Europe.

Fletcher was also an assistant coach for Sellitto at Hawaii Pacific University, including on the staff of the 1993 national championship team.

Fletcher also owned a local construction company.
