Firefighters rescue ill hiker on Maunawili trail
Firefighters today rescued a hiker who started feeling ill after a getting stung by bees on the Maunawili Demonstration Trail in Waimanalo.
The man couldn’t hike back out and requested help at 2:54 p.m., said Honolulu Fire Capt. Gary Lum.
A fire department helicopter dropped two firemen onto the trail about three miles from the trailhead, near the Pali Highway hairpin turn.
They put the man in a net, and the helicopter carried the man to waiting paramedics at Maunawili Valley Neighborhood Park about 3:30 p.m., Lum said.
