Hawaii to host Golden Age Games
Hawaii’s two U.S. senators say Honolulu has been selected to host the 2011 National Veterans Golden Age Games.
Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye said Friday military veterans age 55 or older who receive health care at any VA medical facility are eligible to compete. About 1,000 people are expected to participate in the games scheduled for late May.
Competitive events include swimming, cycling, golf, horseshoes, and bowling. Outrigger canoe will be an exhibition event.
There will be seven age categories. Visually impaired veterans may compete in a separate division, as may veterans in wheelchairs.
Venues are at the University of Hawaii, Waikiki Beach, the Hawaii Convention Center, and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
