Honolulu police and a theft victim used technology to turn the tables on two suspected thieves in separate cases in Kapolei and Waimanalo.

When a 48-year-old man had his iPad stolen during a vehicle break-in in Waimanalo just before midnight last night, Honolulu police used the victim’s cell phone global positioning system to track the iPad to a vehicle driving through Waimanalo, police said.

Officers stopped the vehicle and discovered the stolen iPad inside, police said.

The 21-year-old woman driver was arrested for investigation of second-degree theft, two outstanding warrants and driving without a license, police said.

Friday night in Kapolei, a 28-year-old man had his camera stolen from his vehicle and discovered that it was being sold online the next morning, police said.

The victim then contacted the online seller and arranged a face-to-face meeting, police said. 

When the seller arrived at the meeting with the camera, the victim flagged down a police officer, who arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of theft in the second degree and an outstanding warrant.
