‘Christmas Eve’ to stage AIDS benefit in Big Apple

Local girl Ann Harada (no relation), who created the role of Christmas Eve in the Tony Award-winning "Avenue Q" musical, has tapped her Broadway colleagues to do a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS benefit titled "Christmas Eve with Christmas Eve" at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Midtown Theatre in New York.

Cast mates include Jason Tam ("A Chorus Line"), also a Honolulu native, along with John Tartaglia ("Avenue Q"), Stephen Bogardus ("Falsettos") and Marc Kudisch ("Beauty and the Beast," "9 to 5").

Harada, who played the opinionated but beloved accented therapist in the musical featuring not-for-kids puppets, will present her pals in a skewered fantasy with parody, romantic duets and iconic Broadway moments. If you’re bound for the Big Apple, call for tickets at 212-840-0770, ext. 268. …

FURTHERMORE: The aforementioned Tam, who had been a regular on "One Life to Live," left the soap opera in October after undertaking a Shakespeare Workshop this summer with a Public Theatre performance in "All’s Well That Ends Well." He is now awaiting a nod for the part of Romeo in Yale Repertory Theatre’s upcoming "Romeo and Juliet." Meanwhile, Tam has relocated to Los Angeles to check out prospects for TV pilots that would film this spring. …

He also participated in a staged reading last month in the Broadway-bound "Allegiance" musical, about a World War II family in an internment camp, with George Takei, Lea Salonga, Telly Leung and Paolo Montalban. …

HITHER ‘N’ YON: "The Brothers Cazimero: At Home in the Islands," the KGMB TV special that aired in September, drops tomorrow as a DVD. See and hear Robert and Roland Cazimero, then and now, with vintage video that tracks their 35-year career and current chats with The Caz, their family and friends. A classy documentary on a first-class act. …

By the way, Misalucha has completed her run with Earl Turner in "Voice," which was a staple at the Las Vegas Hilton. …

Back in Waikiki, the Society of Seven LV, back at the Outrigger Waikiki’s Main Showroom, is a work in progress, sort of functioning without a full deck — five full-time members after recent departures plus two guest artists, singers Ryan Gallagher and Melanie Fausto and a veteran musician, Jeanette Trevias, who are not totally integrated into the lineup. Identity is an issue; everyone strives with determined energy, but there are some rough spots within the "Hot, Hot, Hot" title/theme of the show; it’s not, not, not yet quite there. …
