WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Aspnaes named All-West Region

Hawaii Pacific women’s cross country runner Frida Aspnaes was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-West Region Team yesterday.

Aspnaes finished 12th overall at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships last Saturday, helping HPU to a 13th-place team finish. She was named the PacWest runner of the year after winning the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship race on Nov. 6.

Aspnaes earned PacWest weekly honors five times this season, with five individual wins.

 

PacWest Magazine on the air

Tonight’s PacWest Magazine, The Television Show, features the Chaminade men’s basketball team, which is hosting this week’s Maui Invitational, as well as Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Norman Kaluhiokalani, the PacWest men’s and women’s cross country coach of the year.

The show is at 8 p.m. on OC 16, with rebroadcasts throughout the week. It is also available online at www.oc16.tv/shows/57 or www.thepacwest.com.

The Commissioner Cup Standings through the fall sports season will be announced on PacWest Magazine, The Radio Show, at 10 a.m. this morning. In addition, the show will take a look at the first week of men’s and women’s basketball.

women’s honor roll » Richelle Rieben, BYUH: The senior guard scored 25 points, shooting 61.5 percent from the field, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range, in the loss to Hawaii-Hilo.

» Phylicia Schultz, UHH: Junior forward averaged 12 points and eight rebounds as the Vulcans went 1-1.

» Steven Bennett, Chaminade: Senior guard scored 24 points with seven assists in the 81-70 win over Western New Mexico.

» Mamadou Diarra, Chaminade: Junior center scored 22 points, going 11-for-15 from the floor, with 11 rebounds and five blocked shots vs. WNM.

» Nick Frazier, HPU: Junior guard averaged 17.7 points a game as the Sea Warriors went 2-1.

» Shane Hanson, Chaminade: Senior forward scored 15 points when hitting five 3-pointers against Western New Mexico.

» Justin Smith, UHH: Senior forward had 14 points and eight rebounds as the Vulcans beat Western New Mexico 75-67.

» Marques Whippy, BYUH: Senior guard averaged 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4.0 steals on a 1-1 week for the Seasiders.

» Zach Wilde, UHH: Junior forward scored 21 points with nine rebounds against WNM.
