Homicide detectives were called to the scene of a body found in a burning car in Kailua this morning.

Firefighters responded to a report of a car fire on Auloa Road about 6:42 a.m., said Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig. That is near Castle junction, where Pali Highway and Kamehameha Highway intersect.

Police Lt. David Kamai said the body of a person was found in the driver’s seat of a four-door Subaru sedan. He said police were not ruling out suicide or other cause of death.

Kamai did not disclose the age or gender of the victim. Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu confirmed that homicide detectives were called to the scene.

The fire was reported under control at 6:59 a.m. and extinguished at 7:09 a.m., Seelig said.
